Purple Storm

Derby name: Purple Storm (Stormy)
Number: 13
Position: Blocker
Why did you start playing roller derby?
I saw something about the sport on Facebook and contacted the team in Iceland. I had missed out on the Fresh Meat Course by then but I was allowed to come and try it out anyway. I had skated on inlines some years back so that was my background in skating. I showed up to my first practice and did not know anyone, got skates and gear borrowed and started skating. After my first practice I immediately signed a contract and rented gear! There was no turning back, I loved it!
What are you up to when you're not playing derby?
I spend a lot of time weightlifting at the gym and I also enjoy exploring nature. I'm a bit hyperactive so I´m usually always busy doing something. To calm myself down I meditate. I also enjoy knitting from Icelandic wool.
What is the best thing about playing derby?
Skating, throwing people off the track and being thrown off it yourself is a great way to blow off steam. Also facing and overcoming obstacles and constantly becoming a better player. The team spirit is great and I always return home happy after practices.
What is your favourite Icelandic food or candy?
Fish; fried, boiled, grilled... Whatever!
Words of wisdom: You can do this! Maybe not today but you will!
